R.I.P. Jerry: Return of the Black Dog

Last Friday we had to put down Jerry, our little Jack Russell Terrier. We got him from a rescue 8 years ago. He turned out to be a therapy dog in the last 4 years, seeing my wife through some truly hard times.

With my wife's health improving, Jerry's  took a turn for the worse. His condition went downhill fast, and my wife couldn't stand seeing him suffer.

I normally don't  like using my blog for anything besides my gaming, but Jerry deserves to be remembered.

My last picture of Jerry

We notified Jack's Galore Rescue, where we got Jerry from. Patricia, who runs the rescue, wrote these kind words, which sums up how I feel about Jerry. Truly a remarkable little dog.

  1. Sorry to hear such sad news mate. A loss of a family pet can be devastating. I’m sure he was happy and had the best of everything while he was with you both.

  2. Thank you. He brought a lot of laughs to our home and was well known in our neighborhood. As I liked to say, he had more personality than me. My wife and I did spoil him. He deserved his rest.

    1. Thank you. I still find myself taking precautions so he won't get himself in trouble, and while preparing meals I look down to see if he's looking for scraps.

    1. Thank you. Jerry not only was our dog, he belonged to the neighborhood and our neighbors seem like they will miss him too.

  5. Sorry to hear your bad news. We have two Jack Russell’s - Ed and Tess. JR’s have soooo much personality he will clearly have left a big hole in your life. Will you get another? On the one hand you imagine you could never love another dog as much - and on the other hand, when you recognise and accept how much love Jerry gave, why not bring another dog into your life?
I still talk about dogs we had 50+ years ago when I was a youth. Our Alsatian/German Shepherd dog “Prince” was truly well named. He will never be forgotten - Ed and Tess have agreed to “never be poorly” and we have shaken hands on it.
I can’t imagine the grief. Keep him in your heart forever.
    Cheers,
    Geoff
Ps/ sorry for sounding a bit “soppy” as we say here in the UK, but our dogs have brought so much joy into our lives.

  6. Thank you for your kind words. We ran into a couple of neighbors while going for a walk today. We told them of losing Jerry. I could see that he got choked up at the news. Jerry aways barked at him when we walked by him. I think he looked forward to Jerry "talking" to him. We will probably get another dog. My wife is going out of state in a couple of weeks, then we shall make a decision on another dog.
No need to apologize; the last week has been reminiscing on the three Jack's we have had over the 20+ years.

  7. Condolences to your family, it is always difficult to suffer the loss of a loved one.

  8. Thank you. After three dogs, you would think it would be easier to handle, but it's just the opposite.
