I have been looking for the ideal figures for wargaming outside. I found that Britains Herald Guards figures in the prone position was a good figure for what I was looking for. No need to worry about him standing in rough terrain. Even with the dog running around the yard, he didn't disrupt the figures if he ran over them. Also, I just like the look of them, wearing dress uniforms with bearskins. They definitely have the look of toy soldiers. I recently bought 20 of these figures, and with the 6 I already have, this should be enough for some outside skirmishes. I've started painting the "blue" army. My next goal is to find the rules to use with these figures.
I am a solo war gamer endlessly searching for old Peter Laing figures, and the perfect war-game rules to use with them

New Britain's Herald Recruits
In the last couple of weeks I got two good sized lots of Britain's Herald Guards infantry and cavalry. The lots slipped by other buyers, but after that I missed out on three other lots, which the prices started to go out of control.

Distracted once Again
While on Ebay, I came across a large lot of Britains Herald Guards in the kneeling firing position. A few years ago I had collected some other Heralds with the idea of having a war-game outside. I give up on the idea as the figures didn't stand so well in the grass. However, I won the lot of Guards at a cheap price. The kneeling figures seemed to stand well in the grass and I thought that I might get some use out of them. Of course who to fight? The idea of painting some of the figures a different color came to mind. The figures are worn after all. I haven't made up my mind if I will really do it.
| Painting them along the line of the Danish Guards was the natural choice. |
