Painting Inspiration

Recently I have painted up some Falcon Miniatures 15mm Civil War figures. It's been a while since this many figures have been painted. While camping this week I was trying to figure out why I've been enjoying painting these figures. It dawned on me that it's their beefy size.  I suffer from essential tremors, which is your hands shake, especially when using them for tasks. In the last couple of years it has gotten worse, and there are days where trying to paint is impossible.
These figures are easier to paint than the smaller more proportional 15mm figures. In the photo above is an example of a Falcon miniature, a Minifigs miniature, and a Tin Soldier miniature. I find the large figures are easier to paint, and little slips of the brush are easily touched up.

  1. I must admit, those Tin Soldier hoplites are lovely figures - a tad cartoon-ish but they paint up very, very nicely.

    1. I think the cartoonish looks is one reason I bought them. Also, my painting skills fit the description of "catoonish". I really hate when I get really detailed figure and know my painting won't look good on the figure. By the way, one review of the Falcon Miniatures Civil War figures referred to them as gnome-ish! Another reason why I like them.

  2. I do like the look of the more chunky figures. Hope the camping trip went well.

    1. I am thinking of using them in a game where they are reenactors fighting a battle. In "The Portable Pike & Shot Wargame" there's a scenario on a ECW reenactment that gave me the idea. The camping trip was a nice escape. And no floods this time.
