I came across a nice set of Wollner semiflat marching band. I have been avoiding purchases until I get my first retirement check. However, I have a weakness when it comes to Wollner miniatures, and the seller offered a decent discount so I purchased them. They were marked as being 30mm: comparing them to other 30mm Wollners I believe the are 35mm. However, we are playing with toy soldiers so what's a little size difference?

The Austrian marching band. |

The bandsmen compared to my first Wollners. The greys are smaller, but who cares? They are great figures. |

I will admit, the bass drummer with the miniature horse. Pulling the bass drum was a major reason I wanted these figures. |
Lovely figures John. Perhaps the band is made up of the tallest in the regiment?
ReplyDeleteWhen I bring my semiflats out, I think of how when these figures first were produced, I am sure scale wasn't quite the issue as it is now.
DeleteBeautifully shiny and very unusual, especially a horse drawn drum. On display the smaller Wollner figures could be at the back of the parade exploiting perspective?
ReplyDeleteThat is one way to deal with the scale. In one game I used a 40mm general figure with the 30mm figures. It actually wasn't noticeable as the general was in the background.
DeleteLovely addition to your collection! I am glad they have a good home to go to.

I really wish I could display my figures. Perhaps when I get my wargame room organized better I will get a small display case.
DeleteWell worthy of a retirement present to yourself.
ReplyDeleteYes they are. Hopefully they will be leading forward an army in the near future.
