New Homecasts

These are some homecast militia for the 1880's. The body is a casting of Britain's West Point figure. The heads were Fusilers recast. The epaulets were made with green stuff. I made up the uniforms, based on two different militia units of the period. I not too happy with the paint job. I might strip it down and retry it again.

  1. These homecasts have turned out really well. I look forward to seeing them in a game.

    1. Hopefully I will slowly get enough figures done for a game.

  2. They look rather attractive.

What don't you like about the painting? I suspect once the boots and a green base are added, they'll look like proper toy soldiers.

    1. Perhaps I should finish them before redoing them. I also would like to redo the belts.

  3. The white coats and light blue trousers make me think of Hungarians!
They are attractive figures and you have certainly captured the toy soldier painting style.

  4. I am fond of the Austrian/ Hungarian uniforms of this period. Also, most American uniforms with the bearskins of this period used the same color for both coats and pants, which can be rather dull.

  5. Stylish recasts and conversions with a real spirit of old Shiny Toy Soldiers.

  6. Now I have to paint the pink cheeks on them. Perhaps this weekend I will try to finish painting them.

  7. American militia uniforms from the 1800's were, in my opinion, the most colorful, even outdoing Napoleon's uniforms.
